Bestiary part 1:
Shimmers are slow moving creatures that contain a luminescent, volatile fluid inside their fleshy membranes. It is not quite known how the creatures see, but they seem to be able to sense objects that contain large amounts of metal alloys. When posed with such an object, the Shimmer will attempt to latch itself to the object and empty its insides onto its target. It is unknown quite why the Shimmers react this way, for the Shimmer kills itself in the process...

Level 1 "Completed"!
I was forced to "complete" level 1 for Catharsis. It needs a lot of work still, but because of time constraints, and my grade hanging in the balance, I had to scrape it together.
This isn't even close to what I want it to look like. Perhaps I will go back and update it during my break.

The Plot
Far ahead in the future, when humankind itself is a legend,
the futile wars they carried out live on even still in the
wake of their children: The Akros. Fleets of these
metallic offspring carry on wars that have long since lost their meaning.
Originally, there were many factions of Akros, but
over the tides of time, most were either wiped out or captured.
The two remaining factions, the Kathara and the Elattoma
wage relentless seige upon each other.
In an attempt to quickly end the war with the Elattoma, the
Kathara created a new type of Akros. This new warrior
was the archetype for all future Kathara. Through this new
generation warrior, the Elattoma would be crushed.
However, the Elattoma caught wind of this archetype. They
waited for the time to strike. They found their chance when
the Katharan cruiser holding the now-finished archetype
made its scheduled trip back to the Katharan capitol.
Above an unknown planet, the Elattoma made their strike on
the Katharan cruiser. Although the Katharan cruiser had an extremely
large convoy, the Elattoma's numbers and desperation could
easily overwhelm them. However, it soon became apparent
that the Kathara were winning the battle. In a final act of
desperation, a damaged Elattoman ship deliberately rammed
itself into the cruiser holding the archetype. The cruiser
could not handle this type of abuse. After a large
explosion, the cruiser fell as broken pieces into the planet below...

The Interface
So I finished the interface for the main game, although my fiance claims he's not going to use any of it except the health bar because he doesn't like anything obstructing the screen. (Everyone reading should comment and tell him he should keep it!!) I say it's staying so we'll see how it goes. It's not my game, but still, I worked hard on that interface!
Here are the controls and instructions:
Catharsis: I have added in Hardware Acceleration. The game looks and runs so much better now!

The Artwork
The Introduction
Welcome to the Catharsis Game Development blog! The purpose of this blog is to share as much of the development process with you as possible. The idea is to include an update for the game with each blog post. This will keep me on schedule, and keep you up to date. Keep in mind that these are really early alpha tests. Almost nothing functions properly and I am aware of all the (extremely) obvious glitches.
I do appreciate your feedback. If you would like to submit a bug report, just leave a comment on the appropriate post.
Catharsis is a sidescrolling adventure game.
You play as a robot who crash landed on an alien hostile planet. The planet seems to hate technology and will do anything to destroy it. Your goal is to find as many crash survivors as possible, while eliminating any enemy survivors
